A modern-day film
noir, this murder-mystery thriller takes us on a
breathtaking ride through a labyrinth of
unexpected twists peeling
the skin off the plot and its intriguing cast of characters. In the
best tradition of the '40s detective stories and evocative of a Hitchcockian sense of suspense, Dark World is a
complex story-driven film with fully fleshed-out protagonists and
villains who fascinate and beguile us. |

At opening, we meet our
quintessential hero, Harry Boyd
(Michael Paré), a jaded LAPD detective who must
solve a series of missing persons cases before his upstart boss
agrees to sign his quitting papers. Handicapped by a recent injury,
Harry maintains an uneasy alliance with his trash-talking lowbrow
partner Bob
(Charles Arthur Berg). The case hits close to home when the niece of Harry's
ex-wife, a pretty young teen named Grace
(Jen Graham), disappears too. Harry's
ex, Nicole
(Theresa Russell), along with her shady boyfriend
Rick
(Steven Bauer), return from
Las Vegas to
launch their own investigation. The couple's mysterious conduct,
however, arouses Harry’s suspicion. The missing girl's dad, Charlie
(James Russo),
a bitter, bad-tempered drunk, also becomes the prime suspect as his
troubled past
catches up with him. In the meantime, Bob's voluptuous ex-stripper wife, Zoey
(Julie St. Claire), throws Harry off kilter as she makes a
seductive play for him.
Is anything what it seems? |
